AA Batteries

The other night when we were kinda sorta watching the Golden Globes I happened to catch Amy Poehler's acceptance speech.
One thing she said in it really hit home with me.
She said, "Thank you to my kids. You are my AA batteries and you make everything worthwhile."

Being married to someone who comes up with amazing metaphors pretty much on a daily basis, I have come to love and truly appreciate them.

What Amy said was a brilliant way to describe how children affect your everyday life.

Joey and I had conversation years ago, before having kids, about what makes us tick.
I remember kind of struggling with pinpointing what it was that made me tick.
Now that I am a mom, I know.
Being a mom is what makes me tick.
Of course there is being a wife, teaching, crafting, and dancing that fall into this category, but...
Being a mom is it for me.

My kids not only give me life, but they give it a new meaning and purpose.
They fulfill my heart in ways I never knew existed.

They are the AA batteries to this machine known as my being.
